(Or horses, damn horses). Before we got to Torres del Paine, we were told IF you get a sunny day, go to the Towers, otherwise you won’t see them. Well, the Good: we had a glorious sunny day (we got sunburned), we got to the Towers and they were clear as can be. Photographic evidence provided. Absolutely beautiful scenery everywhere. A massive hike up the mountain, but well worth it.
Now for the Bad: horses, damn horses. The first part of the excursion was on horseback (so that we didn’t have to slog uphill for hours.) Not slogging: Good. Horses: Bad. Damn horses! The scenery on the way up – incredible. The horses … a mind of their own.
Now for the Ugly: those damn horses! The last part of the excursion was on horseback again. Not slogging down the mountain: Good. Those damn horses: Ugly! Halfway down the hill, my horse tried telling me who was boss, when he was going to eat, when he was going to walk, how fast and where. He was winning the argument. One of the gauchos (cowboys) spotted this behaviour and rode next to me for a while, talking to my horse the whole way – either telling it off, or singing it a love song; who knows, but it worked. The horse sorted itself out, and behaved well the rest of the way. But I was as glad to see stables as that damn horse was!
I don’t know whether either Nige or I will ever walk straight again. Damn horses!
