Wow! Just wow! This was on my bucket list and I think I want to keep it there for at least one more visit.
As much as you imagine what the flower show will be like, you are still blown away when you see not only the beautiful show gardens, but also the flowers in the grand arena. Not just flowers, mind you, but the VERY BEST of flowers from around the world. Very carefully grown to flower at exactly the right moment to make the greatest impression. And make an impression they certainly do. The oohs and aahs come at every turn… every which way you look there are beautiful, colourful, perfect flowers. Of all kinds, all shapes and sizes, all colours and mixtures. Very very beautiful.
The South African stand made us proud – the proteas very just wonderful, and the comments coming from those standing around us proved that we weren’t the only people to think so. It was also lovely to see how many of the gardens used South African plants in their displays somewhere. A protea here, a pincushion there, a restio or a strelizia amongst the other plants.
And the tulips! I have never particularly considered myself a tulip fan, but they were simply stunning.
A highlight: the poppies on the Royal Hospital Chelsea grounds … stunning! An Aussie idea, 300 000 individually crocheted poppies in the hospital grounds are a tribute to those who served in war. What a lovely idea, and a stunning display with the hospital as a backdrop.
If you have not yet been to the Chelsea Flower Show, put it on your bucket list. I’d be happy to join you on that trip!
