The Wandering Warthog
The Wandering Warthog is our custom-built 4×4 motorhome. It’s already had a tough life, given that halfway through the build, the company doing the work went bankrupt, and we then had a two-year legal battle with a third party over the ownership of the vehicle. Then we had to get another company to complete the build. From start to finish of this saga, we encountered some good guys, some bad guys, some stars and some prize poephols. Eventually, our Wandering Warthog came home, complete, and legally owned by us!
Taking the test
With a few driving lessons under our belts, we booked a driving test. The bad news is that if you book anywhere in or around Cape Town, you have to wait months for an open slot. If, however, you head off into the country and book in Moorreesburg… you discover that...
Learning to drive

Testing the Iveco

Coming along nicely, thank you
Last weekend, we took a trip to Knysna to see how the vehicle build was coming along. And it’s coming along nicely, thank you! The interior has been laid out, with the main sections all in place. Currently underway is the electrical wiring, and then the interior will...
Our vehicle is under construction
Hier kom ‘n ding! We’ve ordered – and paid for – an Iveco Daily 4x4 cab and chassis, and now the ‘home’ bit is being built by TravelStar in Knysna. We’ve finalised the design and it includes everything one could possibly need to travel the world: It’s insulated so...
Background
In 1996, we travelled overland from Alicante, Spain to Cape Town, South Africa in a Landrover. We decided that, at some point - probably when we retired - we would build a custom vehicle to travel to other bits of the world. We're not quite ready to retire yet, but we...
