56km from the start of the trail to the first hut where we spent the night, along with another End-to-end cyclist, John. Much of what we rode was gravel road, a detour past the first hut, which was closed due to a controlled burn. But the roads were through forest areas, so there were hardly any cars. The huts are basic, but perfectly livable for the night. Lesson 1: it takes longer than expected to get to Perth, assemble the bikes, store the left luggage and get ready to ride. We delayed our start by one day to get ready properly. We’ve seen kangaroos, and Hans saw a little snake.
