With a few driving lessons under our belts, we booked a driving test. The bad news is that if you book anywhere in or around Cape Town, you have to wait months for an open slot. If, however, you head off into the country and book in Moorreesburg… you discover that they’re not as busy, and they kindly make a plan to give you two driver’s licence appointments after one another, on one day, so that Nige and I can go together.
Next, you discover that everyone involved in the traffic department in Moorreesburg is friendly and efficient. What a pleasure!
Nige was up first … [bit close to those poles in the yard, there, Shannon!] … and PASSED!
Next, my turn to head off into the yard and then onto the streets of Moorreesburg under the watchful eyes of a traffic officer. Made a couple of little blunders… oops!… but hope for the best. Back in the office, the traffic officer says ‘you’ll have to come back in three weeks’ … pause … ‘to fetch your licence.’ YES! PASSED!
So… thank you to those who gave us lessons, and thank you to the traffic department in Moorreesburg. They are efficient and professional, but they manage to be friendly about it too. Must be all that clean country air.
Now, we’re qualified to drive that Warthog. Legally.
